Flachau
has a good number of cycle routes away from the
main roads. The Enns radweg passes right
through the middle of Flachau - for more info
check here.
A variety of good maps are available from the
Tourist Information office. However, we have
detailed a few of our favourite bike rides below.
Note - we
don't do serious uphill mountain biking, but it is
quite big in the area and many marked trails are
available. |

Flachau to
Untertauern
This is a
straightforward and easy cycle ride. Take
the Enns radweg to Radstadt and from there pick
up the signed path to Untertauern. The
route takes you along a stream and beside fields
to Untertauern. For the return route
follow the same path back to Radstadt but at the
Golf course take a left following the signs to
Altenmarkt. From Altenmarkt you can either
return via the Enns or via Altenmarkt town and
Reitdorf.

To Oberhofalm or Unterhofalm
This cycle ride takes you up a primarily
tarmac road through trees and by streams to 2 restaurants and a lake called Almensee. It is a fairly steep ride which
begins in Filzmoos centre. Head for the well signposted tourist information. From here continue up the hill to a booth which marks the start of the small toll road that the cycle route takes. Because of this we would advise doing this cycle ride out of season. We did it in May when there was still snow around but the road was clear and there was hardly a car on it.
Following the road until you get a choice to go to Oberhofalm or Unterhofalm. When we were there in
May, because of the snow, once you made your choice you couldn’t get from one to the other with a bike. Both restaurants are just as nice as each other
and have amazing views. They serve the usual fayre but we would recommend that you give the butter milk and the Käsebrot a try.
Come back the same way as you went or if there isn’t any snow cross to the other restaurant and take a slightly different route back..

To
Forstau
This is a nice circular cycle route
that begins along the Enns at Flachau. Follow the
Enns radweg through to Gleming. At Gleming take the road up to Forstau.
This is a road which we cycled in June and it was very quiet when we did...although
quite steep. Forstau is a pretty small village with a restaurant which has a nice terrace. Follow the road through Forstau, there is a short climb just after the village before the road heads down into Radstadt. On the way down remember to stop a couple of times as there are some great views as you come down. Once in Radstadt pick up the
Enns radweg again and follow it back to Flachau.
